Explore the Columbia Icefield on foot and by snow tractor and enjoy unique views of the Canadian Rockies from the Skywalk!
Hop aboard the Ice Explorer, a tractor bus boasting huge wheels specially designed to ride on the ice field. You'll head towards the Columbia Icefield; its thickness reaches 365 metres in certain spots, and its 324-square-metre surface can be buried under 7 metres of snow in winter.
While it may seem unassuming, the Columbia Icefield is actually a force to be reckoned with that has been sculpting the landscape of Jasper National Park for thousands of years.
Upon arrival at the glacier, you'll have some free time to walk around and explore the Athabasca Valley.
You can even use a bottle to collect water to drink directly from the glacier.
You'll get back on the Ice Explorer and head to the skywalk. From there, you'll take a 1 km path to the transparent glass walkway. This walkway extends 35 metres from the cliff 280 metres above the glacier. You'll love the 360° view of the Canadian mountains. This is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the Columbia Icefield with your audio guide.
You'll end your day by taking the shuttle to the Discovery Center.
