Dive into the heart of ancient Roman life at the archaeological site of Herculaneum accompanied by an archaeologist guide!
You'll meet your archaeologist guide at the Herculaneum ticket office and set off on a 2-hour tour, in small groups, of one of the most important ancient sites listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Herculaneum (in Latin, the city of Hercules) was an important small ancient Roman city located at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, not far from the famous Pompeii. Roman Patrician nobles were particularly fond of the area and stayed there in the summer, in luxurious residences.
In 79 AD, the terrible eruption of Vesuvius engulfed Herculaneum and its big sister Pompeii in the space of just 10 hours.
The discovery of Herculaneum dates back to the first half of the 18th century and immediately aroused the interest of scientists due to the excellent state of conservation of the houses and roads (considered to be even better than in Pompeii).
On this tour, your archaeologist guide will accompany you to the archaeological site and immerse you in the daily life of the time. Thanks to the anecdotes and commentaries, you'll discover the opulent lifestyle enjoyed by the wealthiest citizens of the Roman Empire.
You'll have the chance to explore the city's most important archaeological remains, such as the Collegio degli Augustali, a sanctuary dedicated to the cult of the emperor Augustus where no fewer than 300 skeletons have been found, the Thermes, the Forum, the House of Neptune and of Amphitrite, the Samnite House and much more.
Take advantage of your stay in Naples to immerse yourself in antiquity at Herculaneum!
