After being picked up from your hotel, set off on a 2-hour drive to San Basilio de Palenque. Meet your local palenquero guide.

Discover the history and culture of this city founded by a runaway slave in 1603. Their unique Creole language was preserved thanks to this town remaining isolated until the 1960s; no roads connected San Basilio de Palenque to the rest of the country.

Marvel at the dances and music of the Palenqueros, which will help you understand why this town is at the centre of Afro-Colombian musical culture.

A typical Palenquero lunch will then be served before you head back to your hotel in Cartagena de Indias.
