After meeting your guide at the meet-up point, you'll head off on a 2-hour tour of the old town of Matera. Your guided tour will start with a panoramic view of the Sasso Barisano area famous for its troglodyte dwellings.
You'll then leave for the Cività district where you'll find the 13th century Matera Cathedral which is dedicated to the Madonna della Bruna. From the outside, you can admire the Romanesque architecture typical of the Puglia region, which is next to Matera.
You'll be able to take in a fantastic view of the ravine carved out by the Gravina river before arriving in the district of Sasso Caveoso, which is home to churches carved into the rock, some of which date back to the 8th century.
Once in Sasso Caveoso, you'll visit a church that has frescoes from the Byzantine period, a troglodyte house carved into the mountainside and learn more about the town of Matera and its history thanks to your guide's commentary.
