Set off on an unforgettable tour of Rio de Janeiro, visiting Sugar Loaf and Christ the Redeemer!
After a transfer from Rio's south zone, your day will begin with a panoramic tour of downtown Rio de Janeiro by bus. You'll make a stop at the Metropolitan Cathedral, an impressive monument (96 meters in diameter and 80 meters high), built in the shape of a pyramid. Inside, you can admire its colorful stained glass windows and unique structure. The tour continues to Cinelândia Square, where you can see historic buildings such as the Art Nouveau-style Municipal Theater, the National Library and the National Museum of Fine Arts. Continuing on your way, you'll pass by the Aterro do Flamengo, a verdant park designed by landscape artist Burle Marx.
Then head to the Urca district, where you'll take a cable-car ride up to Urca Hill, then a second one to the summit of Sugarloaf (395m). From here, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of Guanabara Bay, Flamengo and Botafogo beaches. You'll have around 45 minutes to explore the surroundings, take photos and enjoy the panorama.
After this spectacular climb, you'll come back down for a bbq lunch in a traditional Brazilian churrascaria. You'll enjoy a variety of meats and side dishes, with vegetarian options available for those who wish.
In the afternoon, you'll head to the Maracanã Stadium for a quick visit before continuing to the Cosme Velho train station. From here, you'll take a train through the Tijuca forest to reach the top of Corcovado and admire the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer, protecting the city of Rio de Janeiro. You'll have time to explore the site and enjoy panoramic views over most of the city, from the South Zone to Niteroi.
After getting off the train, you'll join the bus for the journey back to the hotels in the South Zone. You can take advantage of this to continue listening to the audio commentary to learn more about Rio's economy, the two World Cups held in Brazil and life in the favelas.
