Descrizione

Head to Sintra and visit the famous Pena National Palace and Park!

While you're in Lisbon, be sure to discover the jewels that surround Sintra, including the National Palace of Pena and its park. The Palace, straight out of a fairy tale, overlooks its 200-hectare namesake park (Parque da Pena). Unmistakably yellow, red and purple, with its distinctive balconies, the Palacio Nacional de Pena is a must-see.

Its history dates back to King Consort Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, husband of Queen Marie II of Portugal, who bought the ruins of a Hyeronomite monastery and asked that his summer palace be built on top of them. Unfortunately, construction was completed in the year of the king consort's death.

When you arrive in Sintra (journey not included), take the bus to the entrance of Pena Park, then walk through the park to the entrance of the palace. This journey takes several minutes. Once inside the Palacio Nacional de Pena, you'll discover the palace's various rooms, including the Manueline cloister, the dining room, King Carlos's bedroom, the queen's study, the great hall, the chapel and the arcaded courtyard.

You can then visit Pena Park, where we suggest you get lost in the park's alleys and nooks and crannies. Don't miss some of the park's enchanting spots, such as the "Valley of the Lakes and the Fountain of the Little Birds", the "Valley of the Fern", the ancient water wheel and the Temple of Columns.
